About

Hello!

My name is Audrey, and I am a disabled, queer, nonbinary writer and editor from the West Midlands.

My primary experience as an editor is with shorter projects such as newsletter articles and websites, with a range of topics from advertising copy, to event promotion, to health and safety information!

I am also a writer, with decades of experience writing poetry, short-form prose, and non-fiction articles, so I can empathise with the author’s position! Having worked with editors for my own writing, I understand how vulnerable it can feel to allow someone else into your work – I always endeavor to preserve authorial voice, and never suggest changes without justification. I am not precious about whether or not my recommendations are followed-through with, as I understand that often it’s a matter of opinion rather than simply correction. My job is to provide an outside perspective – to point things out that the author may have missed due to being too close; it’s so easy to skip over the duplicated “to” or wrong “their/there/they’re” when you’ve been working on something for a while.

I have a Master’s degree in English Literature, am a member of the CIEP, EFA, and SOA, and am working towards further proofreading certifications.

Please check out my blog, where I post approximately once a month about a range of topics, all related to writing, culture, or EDI.

“I highly recommend Audrey, their knowledge and input was invaluable with keeping our office a safe place to work. This was our first time hiring a sensitivity reader and we had no idea just how much help Audrey would be. Would definitely highly recommend their work.”

“Audrey does great work, they are very transparent with their process, and most of their suggestions came with justifications which were helpful when it came to final decision making, and also helped me improve as a writer.”

“Having the oversight of someone who knows what they’re doing was invaluable to this project. Audrey is knowledgeable and confident, and will go out of their way to clarify things every step of the way. Well worth it.”
